City Museum - Former Palace of Berbedel

The museum of the city of Valencia is located in the old Palace of the Counts of Berbedel, formerly the Marquis de Campo, an interesting example of the Valencian stately architecture.

Original construction of the seventeenth century, rebuilt in the mid-nineteenth century by Don José Campo and Perez (Valencia, 1817-Madrid 1889), mayor of the city and future Marquis de Campo.

The building, declared of Local Relevance in 1973, shows a construction of truly monumental size, in which there are visible survivals monumental baroque details of the main facade, patio or deck staircase slender dome, architectural living with a classicist eclecticism in the main body of the facade, also highlighting the decoration of some of its rooms or sober and functional treatment of subsequent plants.

Among the art collection highlights the pictorial collection, which includes works by Valencian authors from the fifteenth century to today. The variety of themes, styles and trends is one of its main attractions.

A series of sculptures and minor arts, especially jewelry, ivories, enamels and bronzes, mostly gathered by Valencian Miguel Martí Esteve collector are also shown.

In outbuildings, three collections of great interest are discussed; that of Adolfo de Azcarraga, comprising paintings, sculptures and graphic works made by Valencian artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; the Weights and Measures, donated by Antonio Gómez-Trenor; and locksmithing and ironwork, gathered by Angel Garcia Chapel.
